I had a chance encounter with a greenbacked heron today. They're usually very shy birds, but it was about 20 feet from a road, and not very bothered when I stopped.
It did flit about 20 feet further away from me.
Much to my surprise, it flipped its crest up-- I've never seen a green do that!
