That was fun (not).
Jan. 14th, 2003 01:49 pmThe one to three inches of snow we were expecting today has turned into about five. I headed in to the church for practice; roads were passable, if a bit slick. After practice I headed north to pick up the kidlet from school. I was in light traffic, with a semi some distance behind me, when I flipped a switch and the car just-- quit. Engine stopped, all the warning lights turned on. I flipped into neutral, tried to restart but it wouldn’t. Looked at the semi starting to loom in my mirror, and swung into the next driveway, coasting as far as I could off the road. Turned off lights, wipers, radio, etc., tried the starter-- nothing but that funny clicking sound.
I’m very thankful for cell phones today. Called my husband, arranged for him to pick up the kidlet. When I hung up, the kidlet called me, since I was now a few minutes late, so I clued her in. Called my mechanic, and they had a tow truck available. Called the kidlet back to let her know I’d be at the mechanic’s shop. Called the parents of my piano students to cancel. So now I’m home for the day-- no stable trip, no piano lessons. Sounds like time to bake something warm and yummy and watch a soap opera and some M*A*S*H reruns!
