Now this is more like it...

We found the local rep for the furnace manufacturer. Despite the fact that we didn't own the house when the furnace was installed OR the first time the heat exchanger was replaced--- they're giving us the heat exchanger for free, we'll only pay labor. That's less than 1/4 the cost of a new furnace. Given this furnace's track record, we'll start saving for a replacement-- but the heat exchanger will have a warranty, not sure how long but at least a year.

Now, just two or three below-freezing nights to get through.

And... remember the crock-pot disaster? I told the maker I didn't want an identical crock pot as a replacement.. so they sent me a bigger one! I could just about roast a turkey in it, it's enormous! I'll probably donate it to the church.
