Jul. 15th, 2005 11:14 pmThis week my region crossed the line from "drought" (5-6 inches less precipitation than usual for the year) to "severe drought" (8 or more inches 'precipitation deficit'). In fact, it's even worse than that sounds, as we had more precipitation than usual in January and February. For the last 10 days, there have been repeated forecasts of rain, but we got no more than a couple of tantalizing sprinkles.
Tonight it RAINED. Poured for a good 45 minutes, and has been raining lightly most of the last 3 hours. It'll have to rain like that all weekend to save some of the crops here, but it's enough to revive things at least a bit. I don't think I've ever been so glad of a rainstorm.
