The rooster in the back room
Jun. 6th, 2008 12:50 pmIn the back of the conference hall, there are displays by various mission groups. The Heifer Project table has, as a visual aid, a live chicken in a cage. It is providing considerable entertainment.
For example, morning worship included a long 'guided meditation'. One of the last phrases of 'guidance' was, "Be prepared to hear the voice of God in unexpected places." Cue the chicken-- SQUAWK! So the meditation ended with a wave of laughter-- not a bad thing!
Later we had a solemn moment when the two candidates for ordination were asked the traditional questions about how they intend to conduct their lives. At the end, the conference at large were asked to affirm the ordinands and our own answers to the questions. Just a beat ahead of our response- SQUAWK!
