Am I getting this right?
Oct. 16th, 2008 11:41 amPoor Joe the Plumber is worried about paying higher taxes under Obama, so he won't be able to afford to buy his business. And yes, he'll pay some extra, though it may be offset somewhat by health care credits. But let's not even worry about those credits.
If Joe earns over $250,000 per year, he'll pay 39% rather than 36% on the amount over $250,000. So let's say he's making $360,000 per year. Yeah, already hard to be sympathetic, isn't it? And now he has to pay more taxes. How much more? 3% of 110,000.
$3300. Per year. Oh poor Joe, my heart is breaking. Why, that's...... about 3 days' gross wages. Okay, 6 days, net.
Buy your business NEXT week, Joe. And donate a days' wages to the local food kitchen while you're waiting.
edited to add: In fact Joe "isn't "even close" to earning $250,000 so he'd get a tax break under Obama, and be able to buy his business even sooner!
