Adventures in illness
Feb. 18th, 2018 06:52 pmSo, last Saturday I felt an ominous tickle in my throat-- and I had two church services that I couldn't avoid. I took every precaution, but woke up in the wee hours of Monday morning with a raging sore throat. Coughing followed, and in the next few days, chest congestion, nasal congestion and a low fever.
By yesterday I was wheezing rather badly and clearly had a sinus infection, so off to Urgent Care. Diagnosis was probable influenza, followed by bronchitis and yes, sinus infection. Antibiotics and an inhaler, and a nebulizer treatment to jump-start opening up the lungs.
By evening it was apparent I can't do the inhaler (Albuterol). I'm taking Mucinex, also recommended, and hoping that's enough to clear my lungs. I'll mention the problems in the follow-up call I expect tomorrow.
And yes, I played today. I stayed in my corner and shook no hands, and played repertoire pieces I could do in my sleep; and in fact, as often happens when I'm trying to ignore discomfort, I played exceptionally well, and even got specific comments on all three organ pieces. (I tried to get a sub; and I tried to line up choir members with any ability at all to lead hymns. No luck.)
Sadly Laura is now coughing and groaning too.
