Not necessarily of the good kind. My church has a guest pastor for tomorrow, and he hasn't been easy to work with. I've heard through a reliable grapevine that he's a perpetual candidate for ministry, not making much progress towards completing either of his two possible paths, so I'm suspecting he's a Character.

The initial email to him was copied to me as well as the Admin, so he had my address, and that makes it unlikely that my early emails were spamfiled. Tuesday, I emailed my suggested list of hymns, but offered to work with changes he might wish to make. Wednesday, the admin mailed him a sample bulletin with my choices inserted. Thursday, he sent that back, with four out of my five suggestions changed-- and his choices are in my opinion not great for our congregation. Three of them would be completely new, and two are quite challenging. I emailed back, mentioning this, and asking to change just one of the challenging ones... crickets. I then sent the email to the Admin, requesting her to forward it 'in case I'm getting spamfiled.'

At this point he finally emailed me directly, accepting the change, and defending the others by saying he "wants to know if Delmar can sing." He also said he chose one hymn as an ironic counterpoint to the Scripture. I gave in to temptation, and discussed one of his choices in my weekly Music Notes, mentioning that he chose it.

I'd love to be wrong, but I'm rather prepared for a difficult morning tomorrow. As it happens, though, one of our people is on his supervisory committee, and has already asked me for feedback; I'll give it honestly, though I'll try not to be nasty.
