Jul. 25th, 2024 02:50 pmTeaching Dylan how to jazz up a tune-- literally, adding jazz notes-- just led me to articulate something that I've been doing instinctively. It'll help him a bunch, and doing it more consciously will be good for me too. Double win!
For music geeks: Dylan tends to overdo things, muddy his chords. After demonstrating for a bit, I suggested that he either 1) play the tonic and the added note (7th or 6th, generally) in the left hand, and stick to the pure chord with the right, or 2) add a note to the right hand, but keep the left to the tonic and fifth. That makes for nice clean jazz chords!
