Slept okay last night, though after 4:30 I tossed and turned a lot. Got up at 6, rolled out by 6:45, at the church at 7:30. Good solid warmup on organ, but didn't get through all my piano pieces before my soloist arrived to warm up, and there wasn't time after that.

Piano prelude was ragged as a result, but acceptable. Then we started the service with the dedication of the new organ. After the last 'amen', I slid onto the bench and started playing. I heard a child's voice, and smiled. I learned later that he couldn't see me, and hadn't seen me to the organ, so he loudly asked his mom, "is that God playing???" I certainly made enough mistakes to disprove that, but the service went very well. I'm especially proud of the very long (8 verses!) middle hymn. We don't usually do anything that long but it was appropriate for the day, so I took it as an opportunity to show off the versatility of the instrument, with 8 different sound combinations. I had a bad moment when I realized at the very last instant that I was reaching for the wrong manual, and switched, but all that was audible was that I was a bit late beginning that verse.

Finished up the service, grabbed a couple of cookies, led Sunday school music, and then watched Lillian for the rest of Sunday school hour. Then back at it again. I knew the second time would be harder, as I'd be tired and less focused, and that was true. The piano prelude was even more ragged. Most of the service went well; but I had a rather modern introductory verse to the last hymn, and it was even more modern than intended! Very relieved to fling myself into the postlude; then off to lunch and a bit of shopping before I went home.

Sounds exhausting but rewarding, and that child's question is just adorable. I love organ music, it's so moving.

That sounds like a good, if exhausting, first run.
