Sprain: yes, it is sprained, but the sprain is healing okay and is not terribly inflamed at this point.
Fracture #1: the fracture Doctor #2 spotted is quite nicely healed and should not be causing pain.
Fracture #2: is new. It definitely does not appear on the x-rays taken by Doctor #2. On questioning, I do recall feeling a ‘pop’ in my ankle last week, Monday or Tuesday, while just walking across a room; apparently that was the sound/feel of the little knob on the inside of my ankle breaking. Weird.

Treatment: one of those nifty Velcro boot-casts, physical therapy, pain meds and antiinflammatories, revisit in 3 weeks. This is pretty much what I hoped for; removable cast so I can shower and sleep in comfort, no surgery, adequate pain meds.

Of all the doctors I’ve seen at this point, I liked #3 best. #1 barely looked at or touched my ankle, based his diagnosis almost entirely on what I said rather than direct observation. Doctors #2 and #4 were okay but rushed, I kept having to make them slow down and listen to me. Doctor #3 listened, looked and touched... and when he referred me out, yesterday, he stood and waited while a nurse made my appointment, to make sure I got in quickly and had enough meds to last.

The kidlet will be thrilled that I get to use the motorized carts at the grocery for a while... and I’m thinking about letting her paint a flower on the one toenail that sticks out the tip of the boot.

Thank you all for the good thoughts, prayers, sympathy, encouragement, etc. It helps.
