small pleasures
Sep. 5th, 2002 10:46 pmI’ve never been much of a conformist, not even during those terrible teen years when fitting in can seem so important. I was *different*, and I knew that wearing the right clothes or makeup wouldn’t change that. Didn’t much mind, either, really. But there was one silly little thing that bothered me. I mean *really* silly.
I wanted to be able to use Noxema. Not because the ‘cool’ girls did, really, but it looked so delicious and luxurious. Unfortunately, I had really oily skin which Noxema made even oilier (sometimes I wonder how many of the ‘cool’ girls secretly rewashed with something else privately!), and I really didn’t much like the strong camphor/menthol/eucalyptus smell and feel of the stuff... but I still *wanted* it.
So, I’m not a teenager any more, and oily skin is not particularly a worry... and I got a coupon for Noxema recently. And lo and behold, it’s actually cheaper than it used to be, even without the coupon... and there’s a ‘sensitive skin’ version without the strong odor/feel! So I’ve been happily pampering myself for months now, and won’t quit until I get tired of it! (Found some rose/jasmine scented soap today, too, so I’m feeling extra-pampered just now.) Sometimes small pleasures make the day brighter.
