Nov. 12th, 2002 01:29 pmI feel so special. The kidlet carries a cell phone to school most of the time-- spoiled? Yes, but it’s handy when she misses the bus or has forgotten something important; and there are two periods this year where she works unsupervised and can call without disturbing anyone. She called this morning during one of those periods, just to say hello. Of course, she also campaigned for pizza for dinner tonight!
In other news, one of my baby witch hazel
plants has bloomed. I only dabble in gardening, but I love flowering shrubs, and I’ve been fascinated with witch hazel for several years. It blooms during the late fall or very early spring, funny spidery little yellow or orange blossoms. I loved the idea of a plant that blooms during the gray cold days. It took me a couple of years to find a source for plants, and then I received, in May of 2000, two wimpy little twigs with virtually no root attached. I complained, and received replacement plants the following spring. One of the first two plants survived, barely, and it has a handful of spicy little blossoms; one of the second batch is covered with buds, so I expect a spectacular show there in a week or so.
