Since the weather kept us home last night, I decided to touch up my hair color. I was just stepping into the bathroom to rinse the dye goop off my hair when the lights went out. All of them.
Pulled the emergency light/nightlight out of the bathroom outlet-- it lasted just long enough to get a candle lit, and we used that light to light a bunch more candles. Showering by candlelight was rather nice, really! After the kidlet got her shower, we played Uno by candlelight for a while. (We still had last year’s candles in the Advent wreath, so we lit all five-- I don’t think Jesus minded.) Then we had birthday cake, and she and hubby went to bed; I hung out on AIM until the computer battery got really low. (Sure is nice that things like the phone and plumbing still work!)
At 2:30 I was jarred awake by the voice of my answering machine demanding to be reset. Walking around turning off the lights we had left on made my ankle hurt; I tossed and turned for 90 minutes before getting up, taking meds, and waiting for them to work.
Seven hours is a long power outage here; we’re only 1/2 mile from our substation. Hope I can find out what happened!
