(no subject)
Jun. 28th, 2003 09:32 amUnited Methodists react to the Supreme Court ruling here. We United Methodists have no one leading authority to point to, but there are quotes here from various leaders of the church including one bishop, and leaders of the two major unofficial movements within the church. Both the Confessing Church movement and the Reconciling Church movement proposed changes to the church’s position on homosexuality at our last General Conference; when it became apparent that any change would split the denomination, the issue was tabled with the recommendation that all local churches study the issue of homosexuality. (I’m not sure how many churches are doing so at the congregational level, but most districts are requiring their pastors to attend some educational events on the subject.)
Overall, I’m encouraged by this article.. but I still expect rough times at next year’s General Conference.
