This morning I was walking in my park, enjoying being able to walk fairly close to the river bank now that the ground is drying out a bit. Suddenly I heard a very loud fast flapping sound close by. My brain yelled REALLYBIGBIRDREALLYCLOSE and I ducked and lunged. A young hawk swooped over my shoulder and flew away between the trees. He flew very low for a couple of hundred yards; I'm really wondering if it wasn't a fledgling, though he was at least some distance from his nest (it wasn't in the tree he came from).
It was awesome.. but I'm chillingly aware that it wouldn't have been awesome if he made contact.
I'm also pleased to report that I finally have the photographer's instinct-- I managed to take a shot. Unfortunately it's basically a shaky picture of trees with a brown blur in it, because I was 'shooting from the hip' without any attempt to actually look through the viewfinder-- but at least I remembered to try!
will i complete Purpose Driven Life Day 11 before bed? the jury is still out Yes! I did it!
