Summary: Life is all about love.. especially love for other believers. Loving others is top priority (after worshiping God). The best expression of love is time given to the relationship, focused attention. We’ll be judged based on how much love we showed towards others.
My thoughts: I think the reason for the NT references urging special care for other believers is that they were forming new communities, and many of them were giving up their old support systems. Naturally we give the greatest care to those closest to us-- but the “believers first” attitude shouldn’t be taken too far, in my opinion.
The stuff about relationship time is great advice, but he doesn’t even try to support it Biblically. That seems very out of place considering his approach so far in the book.
The last quotation of the chapter is yet another very fuzzy paraphrase. And does he really have to get a threat of judgment into every single chapter?
