Why can't it always work this way?

Didn't get in to practice yesterday, and this morning I had to wait at the house for another repairman (satellite TV system, this time-- please tell me I've paid my dues to Murphy for the year now!). By the time I headed to the church, I was pretty much frantic. There's a funeral tomorrow, and I only had one of two pieces picked for Sunday-- and I had only 90 minutes to practice today.

Arrived at the church, and in quick succession discovered that I have to play only two pieces for the funeral-- no prelude or postlude! I'm splitting my fee with the sound engineer who will be playing CDs, but I don't mind a bit. Then I checked my mailbox, and discovered a complimentary copy of an organ music magazine-- and it contains a delightful but simple little piece that will work for my prelude on Sunday.

So, after my practice time, I headed off to piano lessons in a much better frame of mind. I've got a new student, full of enthusiasm, and her mother is warming up to me (it's grandmother who signed her up and is paying). Then two other students performed brilliantly, so I'm a proud teacher today.
