Doing it my way

Since it's unanimous, I'll be doing Project365. I'll do it my way, though, which means I will still post more than 1 pic if I have a good day, and I'm not going to make separate posts in that case. The difference will be that I'll attempt to take and share at least one pic every day. (I'm not going to beat myself up if I miss a day, or don't get around to posting.) So, here's my first post-- Project 365, Day 1... plus 2 bonus pics.
The "official" pic of the day:

I began 2007 with two hours of watching the entertainment at my birdfeeders. This cardinal was particularly eyecatching on a drizzly gray day.

Later I went on my first walk of the year (502 miles in 2006, by the way). I was watching four bluejays move through the scrub near me, when suddenly they all began squawking and three flew away. I glanced around to see what alarmed them, and saw this hawk settling onto a nearby tree. Another birder assured me it was a red-tailed hawk....

.... but when I got home, pics showed that it has a barred tail, and no red...I think it's likely a broadwinged hawk.
