History and ice, all in one walk!

I really needed to walk somewhere other than my little park today, so I headed for Kingsland Bay State Park. There's not much ice yet, but what there is was swept into the near end of the bay. It made a fascinating rustling sound. See the buildings on the right side of the bay? That's where we're going.

This is Hawley House. Built in 1790, a social center for the neighborhood (the entire second floor is a ballroom).

During the War of 1812, militia units were stationed here to help guard the fleet; some boats were based in the harbor at times. The tower must have been really cool before it was enclosed.

Amazing ice along the shore.

If I have to choose a pic of the day, I think this is it.
