We've been moving along with our attempt to plant more native species. Hubby has a little patch of native grasses started. We've planted bleeding heart, ferns, witch hazel, rhododendron, clethra, dogwood, others that I'm forgetting.

Today was our first foray into the other side of the coin-- eradicating invasive exotics. First we took out the one little patch of yellow flag; I hope to transplant some native purple flag to that spot. Then we took the first bite out of the largest clump of Asian honeysuckle. We felt completely vindicated and blessed when, under the chunk we took out, we found a two foot tall sugar maple sapling struggling to reach the light. What could be better than finding the native plant that's the emblem of our region?
