Another baby!

Look what showed up with one of my young downy woodpeckers today! It's apparently a younger sibling, even younger than when I first saw the other two. Still gray with baby down, and so cute. Bird guides say downies can raise two broods "in southern states" but I'm pretty sure that's what I've got here. Papa downy was lurking nearby in the trees.

Don't you just want to rub that fuzzy little head?

Baby is precocious, already feeding from the feeder. As a youngest child, I sympathize.

Launch! Yeah, not focused-- visually anyway, but check out that intent stare! Kid says it looks like a skier going off a jump.
