Up and down day
Aug. 8th, 2008 09:55 pmKid was totally set on Fair today... so naturally when she got home from work (early, even!) it was raining heavily. She sulked and dragged and eventually dozed off; she's not generally a sulky type, but she was tired after a long work week and I think is pretty homesick for the Midwest lately.
About 4:30 the skies suddenly cleared, and weather maps showed that most of the system was breaking up as it approached our area. I persuaded the kid that a short time at Fair was better than nothing. When we arrived, the parking guys told us to "take any road to the right, and make sure you get your vehicle all the way off the road-- when you want to leave, we'll get you out." The entire parking area is spongy in between slippery roads, and much of it is truly ankle deep in mud!
We arrived on the grounds to find that two events kidlet really wanted to see-- horse pulling and draft horse driving-- were still going on. We enjoyed those plus tractor pulling and fair food (popcorn chicken, loaded baked potato, maple cotton candy). We truly did have to be towed out of our space, but the pullin' tractor showed up promptly and we were on our way. Watched an amazing sunset across the valley on our way home.
