Show day one

First class of the day was Green Horse Showmanship with Star. Much to our astonishment, the kid came out with a blue ribbon! Next up, miniature horse showmanship. Judy was there; she's an absolute whiz at showmanship. Kid went in ahead of her, and did quite well.. and then Judy came in and made a flat-out mistake. 2nd place to the kidlet, as another friend took first.
On to halter classes. Star washed out; she's completely outclassed at this show. Felicity-- another blue ribbon! We knew she'd improved a lot in the past year but this was truly unexpected. Another halter class, open mares-- Felicity was 5th, I think, but highest ranked of the minis again.
Mini horse jumping, hunter and jumper styles First time around Felicity refused a fence, and was third. For the Jumper round Felicity was perfect, and the other two contenders each brushed a rail, so yet another blue ribbon! Next they did the trail course, where they have to negotiate various obstacles; Felicity did pretty well but results won't be announced until the end of the day.
Short break after that, thank goodness-- the heat is brutal today, and the kidlet was close to collapse, after wearing show clothes so long (even though she shed whatever she could during her breaks). Cooled off, ate a bit, started harnessing Felicity for driving-- and she totally freaked out. It got so bad that we had to take her out, and cancelled those classes. A disappointment, but doesn't take much away from the morning's successes. Home now to cool off.. back to the fairgrounds after dinner to tend horses. Might school Felicity in the driving harness, see if we can figure out what's wrong (maybe a tooth problem).
