Oct. 4th, 2010 11:04 pmA number of people have linked to this story, and I share their disgust. (It's about a members-only fire department who let a house burn down because the owner wasn't a current member.) But I wonder how folks will feel about a local variation?
Here in Vergennes and the surrounding area, there's a membership deal for ambulance service. If you're not a member, you and your insurance pay the full cost if you need an emergency squad visit or ambulance transport. But if you're a member ($30 per family per year, as I recall) services are free to you -- if insurance doesn't fully cover, the ambulance company bears the cost.
