Unusual headstone-- those really are separate stones mortared together. Found in Penn Yan, NY.





The inscription, as I know someone will ask.



The "book" on this "pulpit" holds the names and dates.



Keuka College from several miles away across the lake. See the triangular peaks? The window to the left of the left-most peak, top floor, was Laura's room.



That's a chickadee peeking out of our second birdhouse. I watched long enough to see two adults apparently feeding babies.

There is a beautiful cemetery in San Jose that's similarly aged; there is a gravesite for a miller...that engraved his actual millstone. It's amazing, and if we ever get back over there I will get you pictures.

My Mom's folks lived across from an old cemetery in Ohio, and I remember playing in there most of my growing-up life. I used to love making tracings of the old headstones from the early/mid-1800s, because they were so worn you couldn't read them otherwise.
