My main memory of the hospital stay is of constant grinding discomfort. I spent the first 27 hours in a gurney/bed, 12 of those hours with no control over the tilt. Besides specific pain in my foot, that was terrible for my back, and I exhausted my left leg trying to find positions that didn't hurt my foot. Also had a tension headache most of the time I was there, and the constant annoyance of an IV line.

When magical nurse Horace came for Monday night and really took time to connect with him, I told him how desperate I was for some solid sleep. First he got me a RECLINER! and I got to sit in a new position for the evening. Then he checked and found that there was an order for pain meds on demand, and we agreed on what time I'd get that when I wanted to sleep. At bedtime and twice more during the night he helped me to the bathroom (because of the IV) and then carefully helped me get as comfortable as possible, tucked me in, and talked quietly for a few minutes.

He was floor nurse last night but not MY nurse; still bailed me out when he realized my call button had malfunctioned. And I'm pretty sure he then had a Talk with my actual team, because I got instant and very good response to the call button the rest of the night.

Ouch. I'm so sorry you had to go through all of that. I'm glad you had Horace. Horace is a hero.

I love Horace.

And I'm so glad you're home with answers and in better condition.

Keep resting!
