So, I am home after almost exactly a week in the hospital! It is oddly disorienting. For a week nearly everything I needed has been within 12 feet of me, and everything else was delivered. Now I'm back to where things are in different parts of the house, and if I can't get it myself I have to bother my family. (I am not very mobile-- large wound on left foot where they drained an abscess.) And I just found out that even when I can walk, I can't drive until the PICC line is out.

I am also not out of the woods. This kind of infection is very dangerous, and because mine recurred a month after the first hospital trip, I'm on home IV antibiotics for up to 6 weeks. Just did that to myself for the first time, with my training nurse watching. (yes, I am taking LOTS of probiotics.)

All that said, it is lovely to be in my own chair and bed, and have a cat on my lap, and later I can play piano. And I washed my hair last night, oh glory!

Very glad to hear you could go home. It is amazing to use technologies that allow us to go home long, long before we would have been able to even 10 years ago. Keep up the good work!!

I'm glad you're home, with your own chair and bed and cat and other family. I hope everything goes smoothly and that the IV antibiotics do their job.

I didn't know that a PICC line precluded driving.

The PICC line runs from my upper arm through my shoulder to near my heart (it's a 52 cm long tube!) They don't want lots of extra motion of the shoulder-- especially what could happen during a panic stop while driving. Also not allowed to lift heavy things, which makes me a bit glad it's in my left arm. Right arm is preferable in general because of anatomical structure, but my veins in the right arm were not as good.
