When we drove by the nearest osprey nest tonight, we saw one on the nest, another close by-- and then a third started cruising close to the nest. The one on the nest was very upset, so I think it must have been an attempted attack-- kill the chicks to reduce competition? Or plain old cannibalism? In any case, it left after 4 or 5 passes.





It certainly looks like she's tending chicks rather than sitting on eggs now, but the nest is deep-- I haven't gotten a glimpse of babies yet.

Ospreys are quite wonderful. We sometimes see one at Echo.
