Show so far

Yesterday-- after getting my errands and such done, I met the kid at the barn around 4:00. Much to my surprise, she had the trailer hitched already! Star was a bit reluctant to load but we persuaded her, and headed for the fairgrounds.
Got a scare when for the second time she stepped on the hinge of the ramp when leaving the trailer and cracked a hoof. Thankfully this time it wasn't serious enough to keep her from showing. We arranged for a farrier visit first thing this morning, and got it trimmed-- for just $15! I was expecting a bill of up to $100, so that was a good start to today.
Classes went well. It's only Star's second show, and she's very young, so she was hyper alert, but well behaved. They were third in nearly every class, behind two really gorgeous quarter horses who have been showing in "green horse" classes for two full seasons-- after September they have to graduate to regular competition. Laura's really loving riding, though she's a bit wistful about not showing Felicity. In September we might try both.
Laura's new boyfriend came to the show; he did pretty well at helping her, carrying the grooming bag and such things. He even partnered her in the lunchtime egg toss competition-- they came in third. He's intelligent and easy to be around, I see why she likes him.
We came home for dinner, then went back (only 6 miles) to settle Star for the night. We discovered that she had smashed her water bucked, and managed to pull her show halter into the stall and chewed up the lead.
Shorter day tomorrow, then trailering back to the barn-- hopefully all will continue to go smoothly.
