I make a habit of google-searching the name of any unfamiliar composer whose music I play, to satisfy my own curiosity (and on the chance of finding an email addy so I can drop them a note-- I know how much such a note would thrill me). I was oddly pleas ed to find, today, that whenever I play the fun little Fanfare and Promenade on which I started work today, I’ll be playing my first piece (as far as I know) by an Australian composer, Rosalie Bonighton. I’m quite intrigued by some of the items on her list of works: Mixed Metaphors (for concert band); Moonlight over undulating ground (for chamber ensemble); and my personal favorite, Sanity in Hell (for marimba and string trio).

Later... got the phone call I was expecting, finally. I don't have to prepare a prelude or postlude for this Sunday, so I can take the time to really polish Ms. Bonighton's lovely piece. I don't expect to need any music at all for the following Sunday, either, since we have a guest performer doing the entire service-- so I can do some serious work on the composing project I started yesterday. Whee!
