I'm going to aim to post daily during July. The stress of the last couple of years (seriously, more than 2 years) has caught up with me, and I am inclined to curl up in a ball in the back of some imaginary cave; I need to fight back.

For the moment I'm still pondering the worship service yesterday.

It was one of the most powerful worship services I've experienced in a long time, and I'm still sorting out why. Here's what I have come up with: The entire service was built around the belief that God's love extends to everyone, with no exceptions; and most if not all of us present believe that, and are passionate about it, and were feeling like God's kingdom had just become a tiny bit more visible on earth with Rev. Schaefer's reinstatement. (If there was anyone who didn't agree, who had just stumbled into that service, I'd love to hear their reaction!) As we sang and spoke the prayers, I could see people around me smiling and nodding at particularly wonderful phrases in the texts, and I know I was doing the same. The best moment for me was when the pastor was giving a typical-for-a-Methodist-church speech about how everyone is welcome to take communion, and paused before repeating "Everyone!" with great emphasis and a huge smile.

If only worship could be more like that more often.
