odds and ends

kayreAnother tidbit from the fair: overheard this conversation in the warmup ring between speed events:
“Aren’t these courses shorter than usual?”
“Yes, but if they were normal length, that thoroughbred would really be hurting us, with those big long strides.”
Wait ‘til next year, girls!
The kidlet slept 13 1/2 hours last night, and I had a hard time waking her up then. It’s been a tough week!
We went first to a farmer’s market and then to the grocery-- we’ll be feasting on veggies this week, after a week of fair food. At least there was lots of fruit available. But now I’ve got corn, peppers, zucchini, carrots, tomatoes... when did I become a veggie lover?
While running errands this morning, I let the kidlet talk me into stopping at Kilwin’s for a little bag of dark chocolate covered cashews, and we ate them on a bench outside the store. Such luxury!
Church yesterday was amazing. I got specific compliments on all four pieces of music I played-- prelude, special music, offertory, postlude. The special music did go okay, both services; what I lacked in precision, we made up in enthusiasm. One person even noticed that the postlude was one of my own pieces. I know people appreciate me, but it’s really encouraging to get specific comments. The offertory was Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring-- not note-perfect, but definitely the best I’ve played it in public.
