I spent 9/11 mostly waiting for antibiotics to work. Woke up with a UTI; started antibiotics right away, but still had a miserable day. (I've already got a broken leg-- shouldn't I be exempt from other annoyances like this for a while?) I watched BBC America coverage of the various ceremonies from about 8:15 to 10:30-- couldn’t face dealing with an American network. Too ill to feel more than gentle sadness, really. Did manage to practice and go to the monthly music staff meeting.
Couldn’t sleep much last night, so I saw some truly horrible TV, which was about all my brain could cope with anyway. Luckily hubby recently indulged in a 600 page fantasy novel that’s really more to my taste than his; it’s decently written and light enough to entertain my poor fevered brain ( Through Wolf’s Eyes by Jane Lindskold. I see from Amazon that it’s part of a series-- have I started an expensive habit?) My darling cat Felix was a comfort, following me from TV room to bedroom and back and snuggling with me most of the night. Around 4 a.m. I laid down in bed again, determined to grit my teeth until 8 a.m. and then head for the medical clinic again; woke up 3 hours later feeling much improved.
Managed to practice this morning despite running on 4 hours’ sleep and no food except juice in almost 24 hours. On the way home I stopped for more juice, and practically drooled at the sight of bagged popped popcorn. Thought to myself that I can make popcorn at home, but my brain said “no, I want this popcorn!” So I am nibbling pre-stale, cold popcorn-- yum.
