Survived the funeral, cleared the air with the pastor (he finally got a clue and came to me to apologize-- yay!). My music went quite well-- which is a good thing, since the church really was full to overflowing. The deceased was a football coach at, successively, three different area high schools. The team he coached until he fell ill last spring all attended, wearing their jerseys over dress clothes; when the son asked everyone who had been coached by his father to stand up, more than 100 men stood. Lots of slightly off-color football stories, including some from his wife (who was wonderfully inspiring, and got a standing ovation-- a rare thing at a formal memorial service). All in all, quite an experience.
My ankle held up reasonably well; it still aches and swells, but recovers quickly. I’m doing some slow careful walking now; went to the mall and bought some cute new high-top walking shoes, on my physical therapist’s advice. My daily planner’s quote for the day yesterday was “It does not matter how slowly you go, as long as you do not stop”.... that may be my motto this winter as I rebuild.
