Better late than never, right?

On anniversaries... the questions don’t much interest me, but did remind me of the delightful extended-family anniversary parties we used to have; my parents and 3 of their 4 kids had anniversaries within a 2-week span. Parents are dead now, and one of the 3 was widowed and remarried at a different time of year, so the tradition fizzled.

1. How many TVs do you have in your home? Two: a 25-inch in the living room, with VCR, satellite hookup, and antenna tall enough to get signal from stations in four nearby cities, since there’s nothing truly local; and a 13 inch in the basement with VCR, for watching tapes no one else is interested in.
2. On average, how much TV do you watch in a week? Probably around 20 hours, between an hour or two of daily viewing and sports on the weekends. Little if any of that is just TV time, though; I’m generally reading, on the computer, or embroidering, and we never just stare at the tube. Discussing the show is half the fun. We always watch West Wing taped so we can stop the tape or rewind to catch stuff we missed.
3. Do you feel that television is bad for young children? Depends. Yes if it’s used as a babysitter, not supervised, on all the time. No if it’s supervised, used educationally, and limited. Supervision and educational doesn’t mean nothing but Sesame Street, either; I’ve watched some fairly mature material with the kidlet, and think she has been well educated by the discussions it has prompted.
4. What TV shows do you absolutely HAVE to watch, and if you miss them, you're heartbroken?. I’m not quite that manic, but if we forget to tape West Wing or Enterprise, we’ll try to borrow tapes.
5. If you had the power to create your own television network, what would your line-up look like? Like it was created by someone with multiple weird personalities, probably. Lots of horse stuff, other sports (football, soccer, sumo, and pseudo-sports like gymnastics and figure skating); every Star Trek series; West Wing; various reruns like Pretender, Murder She Wrote, Remington Steele, Chef!; a couple hours of good news coverage daily; fine arts programming of wider variety than PBS provides; Iron Chef and BattleBots; history and science programs.
