A milestone
Dec. 2nd, 2002 01:52 pmThe kidlet turns 18 today... at 2:45, to be precise, exactly when school lets out for the day. She mentioned over the weekend, rather wistfully, that birthdays are announced at her school, but they’ve missed her every year... so as soon as she was out the door this morning I phoned to make sure they don’t miss her today. Cake (very dark chocolate) just came out of the oven, hopefully will be cool enough to frost before I go to pick her up. Gifts are wrapped: sports boots for the horse (support and protection devices, basically); a good set of professional-quality watercolor paints; and a very special necklace. It’s an upscale duplicate of the cheap necklace that she bought years ago with her own money; she wore that one until it was so worn we couldn’t repair it any more.
It’s been a terrific 18 years; she’s a delightful daughter. I’m glad she’s not leaving us yet!
