Well, Whisper looked okay-- very pissed about having that cold saddle and girth buckled on, but perfectly comfortable walking around with the kidlet on her back again at last. Tomorrow, 15 minutes with a bit of trotting. She’s also going back in pasture with the other mares, after a month of isolation so she wouldn’t get chased or kicked. Still crossing my fingers a lot, but all is going well so far.

And now, the meme of the day.....

Where were you ...

1. When John F. Kennedy was shot (11/22/1963)
Probably at home with my mother; I was three.
2. When Mt. St. Helens blew (5/18/1980)
I was at Ohio State University; don’t really remember the event, that would have been quite late in spring quarter.
3. When the space shuttle Challenger exploded (1/28/1986)
At home, watching TV while feeding the kidlet, who was barely two years old.
4. When the 7.1 earthquake hit San Francisco (10/7/1989)
Online on Q-link; realized eerily quickly that everyone from the San Fran area had just fallen offline.
6. When the Gulf War began (1/16/1991)
Eating in McDonald’s. Ironically enough, we were eating in another McDonald’s when it ended (and no, we don’t eat there that often).
7. When OJ Simpson was chased in his White Bronco (6/17/1994)
Running errands and ignoring the constant updates.
8. When the building in Oklahoma City was bombed (4/19/1995)
Practicing at church; didn’t find out until suppertime.
9. When Princess Di was killed (8/31/1997)
Watching TV and chatting online.
10. When Bush was first announced President (11/7/2000)
Asleep.
11. When the 6.8 earthquake hit Nisqually, WA (2/28/2001)
No idea.
12. When terrorists knocked over the World Trade Center (9/11/2001)
Logged onto #callahans minutes after the first hit, purely by chance.

A couple of personal additions:
Ronald Reagan shot 3/30/1981-- I was on the shuttle bus from the Wright State University campus to the parking lot.
Pope John Paul II shot 5/13/1981-- On the same shuttle bus.

[livejournal.com profile] davehogg pointed out that this list is rather west coast oriented; it seems to me that it’s also rather youth-oriented, jumping from 1963 to 1980. But I’m forced to admit that I don’t know where I was on June 5th, 1968 when Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated, or April 4, 1968, when Martin Luther King, Jr., was killed. Here’s a few more dates, though:
August 8, 1974 when Nixon resigned-- I was at Girl Scout camp. The counselors brought us all in to the dining hall to watch on TV; apparently many parents had called and insisted on it.
July 20, 1969 First moon landing-- at home, watching on TV, not really understanding the magnitude (after all, I watched Star Trek and Lost in Space and stuff like that).
Sept. 5-6, 1972 Israeli athletes murdered at the Munich Olympics. I was at home-- by the end of the day I asked my mom why she kept sending me out of the room, or out to play, so she told me what was happening and let me decide for myself after that.
