Jan. 26th, 2003 01:47 pmToday was Youth Sunday at church, which means that the teenagers planned and led the service. They chose to use no prelude at all, a teenage soloist for the offertory, a CD for postlude, and all contemporary hymns which needed to be played on synth rather than organ-- so the youth choir director offered to play, and I got to sleep in!
My daughter did the children’s sermon. She asked the kids what they thought Jesus would look like if he showed up in church today-- and drew on a whiteboard according to their results. In second service she ended up with a Jesus in blue jeans, sandals and short sleeves (despite 8 inches of snow outdoors!), with orange/brown spiky hair. Pulled it together with the thought that what Jesus looked like wasn’t as important as what he was like inside.
Later she narrated a skit being used as most of the sermon-- and read so well that after a bit I forgot it was my kidlet reading, and got completely caught up in the skit. I’m really proud of her!
