Friday Five-- possessions
Feb. 21st, 2003 12:42 pm1. What is your most prized material possession?
The thing I’d miss most if it were lost, stolen, or destroyed-- my laptop computer. The thing that makes me smile when I look at it-- my garnet and celtic knot ring.
2. What item, that you currently own, have you had the longest?
As far as I can figure out, a Little Golden Book called Too Many Kittens. My grandfather bought me one of those books every week when my mom and I took him to the grocery (I was probably about 5 years old). This was my favorite. It was about a little girl named Carol who wanted a kitten. Her father placed a want add for kittens, and they were quickly deluged with gazillions of kittens. Then they advertised “free kittens” and for a moment it appears they have inadvertently given them all away, until one kitten comes out of hiding, and Carol and kitten live Happily Ever After.
Years later, just after moving into my first apartment, I fell in love with a kitten in a pet store window and bought her. I was amused to realize, when I later rediscovered my long-forgotten children’s books, that Limber was a dead ringer for that last kitten in Too Many Kittens.
3. Are you a packrat?
I have some leanings that way, but my husband is a hard-core packrat; combating his “we might need that someday” itch has helped me deal with my own.
4. Do you prefer a spic-and-span clean house? Or is some clutter necessary to avoid the appearance of a museum?
Clutter, definitely.. not that spic-and-span has a prayer of happening in my house anyway!
5. Do the rooms in your house have a theme? Or is it a mixture of knick-knacks here and there? There is a bit of a musical theme, with musical instruments displayed in one room, vintage sheet music in another, and various musical knickknacks I’ve received as gifts-- but there are lots of other odds and ends now as well. In fact, the most obvious theme might be “budding artist,” as I can see 6 pieces of the kidlet’s art from where I’m sitting right now.
