Sep. 4th, 2003 01:50 pmThis morning I checked the last monarch chrysalis and noticed that it had turned dark green overnight. Three hours later, we returned for a walk and discovered that #4 had emerged and was nearly ready to fly!
Good walk today. Saw two blue herons-- they've been a bit scarce lately. Last week I passed the halfway mark on the walk to Rivendell. If I can put on a lot of miles during the pleasant September and October weather, I might just make it by the time the last movie opens.
I went to fill my birdfeeders a few days ago, and found that bees had nested in two of them over the summer. After a bit of excitement (strangely, bees don't like having birdseed dumped on them), I've now got them cleaned out and loaded. I'm making special note of hummingbirds; once I've not seen a hummingbird for a week, I'll take in that feeder and put up the last winter bird feeder. I'll miss the "hummies" but I enjoy having finches and woodpeckers at the window in the winter-- and the cats find them far more interesting.
Touching up my hair today... some frightening impulse led me to pick up auburn rather than reddish brown when I shopped. Only a shade redder, but it scares me every time I use it. Even worse today, since I am in a mouse-brown mood rather than a bold redhead mood.
