1. Is the name you have now the same name that's on your birth certificate? If not, what's changed?
My birth certificate says “Baby Girl R----”. My first and middle names are the same as those on my baptismal certificate, a month or so later; gratefully ditched my frequently misspelled or mispronounced last name for my husband’s last name when I married him.

2. If you could change your name (first, middle and/or last), what would it be?
I’ve considered Carol Edwards as a pen name if I ever actually submit fiction to a publisher.

3. Why were you named what you were? (Is there a story behind it? Who specifically was responsible for naming you?)

My mom, having nearly died during delivery of her previous three children, refused to choose a name for me because she was convinced she would die and my father would want to name me after her. Days later, finding herself alive and watching a Clark Gable/Carole Lombard movie on TV, she opted for Carol, without the ‘e’ which she considered “prissy.” And for my middle name, I was indeed named after her, Eileen.

I’ve come to appreciate “Carol” since it means “song of praise.”

4. Are there any names you really hate or love? What are they and why?

I am always pleasantly amused by what hubby and I call “all-American names”-- blends of multiple cultures, like Kwame Sean Braun (a local football player this year).
