It was so nice to be walking again, especially since I got to try out my new bag. (I love it!)
I took just a short walk, 1.4 miles. The white trilliums have bloomed while I was ill, and are a bit beyond their prime but still lovely. There were 5 turtles in the trail pond, a record this spring. I got a glimpse of a muskrat by the island; wasn't quick enough to get a picture, but I spotted what is surely its main entrance to its hole (it even has a little mud slide!). I got two fleeting glimpses of a bird which I think may have been a lesser blue heron-- a rare sighting for this area if I'm right, so I'll be watching for it. The lesser yellowlegs sandpipers are back, as well as a tiny brown sandpiper whose name I'm not sure of. (Pics tonight, maybe.)
We've had an outbreak of emerald ash borer in town, which means the removal of every ash tree within a circle of 1 mile radius around the outbreak, some 20,000 trees (about 900 of them large). My park is just barely outside that circle, so it's safe for the moment but will be affected if there's another outbreak. Sadly, my second favorite park is within the circle. I'm planning to walk there tonight, now that the ashes are marked for removal, to see how bad the damage will be.
In other news, we're ordering me a new computer today.. just like the kidlet's, which I'm currently using, but it will be MINE MINE MINE!!
