After a week of insomnia, I pretty much caught up last night. Went to bed an hour early. Woke up at 6:30 with an incipient migraine. Took Excedrin, and still went back to sleep for a while longer. Mmmmm.
At tutoring this week, we had a good discussion about next year. Results: kidlet and I will be tutoring Antoinette and 2 or 3 other kids, but our current co-teacher will go back to one-on-one. She's been paired with Antoinette for 4 years; it's time for a change. Don't know if we'll have a third teacher with us.
I don't play for my church tomorrow, so this week I spent my practice time mostly on some big stuff, to stretch my skills. I've now got Bach's Prelude in A minor very close to performance level-- not to mention totally earwormed. I'll use it for wedding preludes, but it's way too long for Sunday morning use, unfortunately. (I have this secret daydream that someone will hear me practicing it, and go to the pastor and demand that time be made for it.)
The other benefit of not playing tomorrow is that, since it's not a vacation day, I'm positively encouraged to go visit another church. We're heading for Peace Temple, the home church of my tutoring program (which is actually called Peace Partners). It's a big early 20th century church in Benton Harbor; it was the big Methodist church in the area before the decline of Benton Harbor. Now it's struggling along with less than 100 members, but it's mixed-race, and very active in social justice issues. And they still maintain and use the pipe organ.
