Pics and stuff
Jun. 21st, 2004 07:41 pmFor my walk today, I headed to the Prairie Street Cemetery. It's historic, but there were some interesting newer gravestones as well as the older ones.
Ten pics.
Class went very well. The instructor is fine with me auditing, and willing to include me as much as I choose. We did a lot of typical first-day stuff today, and then she assigned us, in pairs, to see how much of a Bible story we could reconstruct without looking at the text. The first groups got the feeding of the thousands, Jonah's call, the Tower of Babel, and then she came to me and my partner.... "the widow of Zarephath." Gee thanks June! We did manage to pull it together pretty well-- missed quite a few details but got the story framework down right.
I think I'll learn quite a lot, but it's also reinforcing some of the things I already figured out. Best of all, there's a decent list of resources, including the Network of Biblical Storytellers and the journal they publish. That'll give me ongoing inspiration.
It would have been worth coming back just for the food. Lunch was chicken vegetable soup with a hint of Oriental flavor; chicken and rice salad; fruit salad with lots of fresh orange pieces; cornbread and dark rye bread, both homemade. All you can eat, for $3.50!
Practiced in the chapel.... wow. I had forgotten just how utterly wonderful the acoustic environment is there. Despite being a fairly small building, both piano and organ resonate in the way that feels like playing in a HUGE responsive concert hall. Doesn't hurt that it's a tracker organ and a Steinway grand piano, either!
