Purpose Driven Life
Jun. 27th, 2004 11:13 pmSummary: Community requires commitment. Building community takes honesty, humility, courtesy, confidentiality and frequency (of contact).
My thoughts: Of the first three references, two are really way-out paraphrases. This is getting old.
There’s actually good advice here; too bad he sometimes supports it with twisted scripture. Community can’t deepen without honesty, but isn’t helped by brutal honesty. “God hates gossip, especially when it is disguised as a ‘prayer request’ for someone else.”
Most of the chapter is not especially deep advice, but it’s good, and there’s not a single threat of hell in the chapter. Why couldn’t he have gone straight to this?
