Summary: People were created to become like Christ. That’s what life is about-- not our comfort. We become like Christ through the work of the Holy Spirit, and by our experience of God’s word, and the people and circumstances of our lives. It’s a long, slow process of growth.

My thoughts: I nearly forgot to read tonight-- and I rather wish I had just gone on forgetting. Oh boy, begins with Romans 8:29, the ultimate predestination text, and then moves to a flat pronouncement that abortion is wrong. “God gives us our time on earth to build and strengthen our character for heaven.” Gee, thanks. Personally, I subscribe to a different eschatology-- one that says that eternal life has already begun, the Kingdom is among us now.

I agree with the statement about the Holy Spirit.. but such language is so often misused, as a kind of “God’s Holy Spirit told me this so you can’t disagree” that I think this chapter badly needed far more depth.

*sigh* well, two good days out of 22.. I guess it was too good to last.
