Purpose Driven Life
Jul. 4th, 2004 08:07 pmSummary: God uses temptation to develop our characters. “God develops the fruit of the Spirit in your life by allowing you to experience circumstances in which you’re tempted to express the exact opposite quality.” To overcome temptation: refuse to be intimidated (don’t feel guilty about being tempted); recognize your pattern of temptation and be prepared for it; request God’s help;
My thoughts: Temptation begins with desire-- hey, maybe he’s really a Buddhist! The main problem with this chapter is that it’s so brief, it really doesn’t go into detail about how to identify the real temptations in your life. Way too many people are going to read this and latch onto needing to break some silly habit, without ever digging into their lives enough to find the real problem areas.
Of course, all the “God planned everything, God uses everything, God micromanages life” stuff still bugs me.. but this chapter is mostly shallow rather than disgusting.
