Purpose Driven Life
Jul. 11th, 2004 09:38 pmSummary: Without a heart inclined to service, we may be tempted to use our gifts and abilities in selfish ways. Real servants: make themselves available to serve, by making time available; pay attention to needs (even sometimes serving in ways that are not their normal calling, if necessary); do their best with whatever they have (sometimes ‘good enough’ really is good enough; demanding excellence may drive some people to not try at all); do every task with equal dedication; are faithful to their ministry; maintain a low profile.
My thoughts: “When Pharaoh promoted him to prominence, Joseph still maintained a servant’s heart, even with his brothers....” Really? All those games he played with them, for a couple of years? Threatening them, imprisoning one? Yes, the story shows him eventually changing, but not for quite a while!
Other than the above weird interpretation, another decent chapter. It certainly would be nice if more people followed these principles, within the church and other organizations too! It would be nice if he had spent some time on supporting and appreciating the service of others, somehow.
