The caterpillars hang head down for around 18 hours, then transform into their chrysalises quite quickly, a matter of a couple of hours. Unfortunately both managed to do it while I was away. We've got three younger caterpillars, so maybe I'll have a chance at pics of them. The black lump below is all the little black hairs from the caterpillar; usually it falls off by this time. The distinctive gold crown doesn't show very well yet; pics of it tomorrow, or when I get home, most likely. Ten to twelve days, then butterfly time!
